Our Region

A vast area comprised of nearly 1,400 square miles, Pend Oreille County is a nature lover’s paradise. There’s plenty of room to roam, as just 9.3 people occupy each square mile, on average – compared to 101.2 in the state of Washington.

Pend Oreille County’s population was 13,150 in 2013, according to the State of Washington Office of Financial Management’s April 1st Population Estimates. The county enjoyed a healthy 0.9 percent growth rate in 2013; since 1981, the county has grown by 4,424 people.

Pend Oreille County’s largest employers include the Kalispel Tribe of Indians in Usk with 354 employees, Newport Community Hospital with 300, Ponderay Newsprint Company in Usk with 180, the Newport School District with 173.
